Get Into The Festive Spirit In Singleton

This Christmas lend your support to local Singleton charities and experience the magic of the season in our community.

The Singleton Salvation Army 2020 Toy Appeal

Christmas is the most challenging time of the year for families doing it tough, and that means that it’s the busiest time of the year for the Salvos. You can help bring some Christmas magic to local kids by donating to the 2020 Toy Appeal. We’re collecting donations of new, unwrapped toys at the ONE Agency Lindy Harris office on John Street. Leave a toy under our tree before Thursday 17 December and bring relief, joy and comfort to Singleton families experiencing hardship this Christmas.

The Singleton 444 Fire and Rescue Team 2020 Christmas Lolly Run

In 2005, deputy captain Joe Adamthwaite resurrected the Singleton lolly run. He was inspired by fond memories of the lolly run from his own childhood and wanted to bring today’s kids the same magic that he experienced growing up in Macquarie Street.

Although Santa can’t make any stops this year, thanks to support from generous sponsors he’ll still be bringing the joy (and the lollies!) to Singleton’s children from his vintage fire engine. He’ll be visiting Singleton’s streets from 4pm – 8pm every day this week.

  • Monday 7th December – between John Street, George Street and South Singleton
  • Tuesday 8th December – Queen Street through to Greenwood Avenue
  • Wednesday 9th December – Entire Singleton Heights and Pinnacle
  • Thursday 10th December – Hunterview and Pioneer Road
  • Friday 11th December – Maison Dieu, Gowrie, McDougalls Hill, Darlington, Dunolly and Glenridding

Remember, safety first – children need to stay on the footpath when the fire engine comes past.

Christmas in our community

Christmas on John Street might have been cancelled this year due to COVID, but that doesn’t mean Singleton is lacking in festive cheer. Ongoing works associated with the John Street upgrades mean that the town Christmas tree can be seen in Pritchard Park this year, rather than its usual spot in Bailey Union Park. John Street and Pritchard Park have been transformed into a twinkly Christmas wonderland thanks to the Singleton Rotary Club’s fairy lights.

Singleton’s Mayoral Christmas Tree looks a bit different this year too. It’s a virtual event this year, and the council has used its Community Support Package to donate to four local charities on behalf of the whole community. The $2000 has been shared between The Salvation Army, St Vincent De Paul Society, Singleton Neighbourhood Centre and Samaritans Foundation. If you’re keen to lend a hand or make a donation, Samaritans are looking for volunteers and donors for their Singleton express Christmas lunch and gift pick up on Christmas Day.

We’re running a Christmas colouring-in competition for the kids here at ONE Agency Lindy Harris. The winner of each of the three age groups will receive a $50 WISH gift card so they can choose their very own prize. Head to our Facebook page or pop into the office to pick up the colouring-in sheets and have a look at all the gorgeous entries in our windows while you’re there.

Spend in Singleton

Local businesses are getting in on the Christmas spirit too. The Light Up Your Business for Singleton initiative, spearheaded by the Singleton Business Chamber and Singleton Council, has shopkeepers competing for the most festive window displays. Shoppers can vote for their favourite until 20 December, and the winners will share in $1500 of prizes.

The kids will love the Santa’s Little Helpers Family Challenge. Santa’s elves are hiding in shop windows and local businesses around Singleton. Spot one of the elves and you could win one of 50 $25 Spend in Singleton gift cards. The winners will be announced on 21 December.

Stuck for present ideas for the person who has everything? Support local businesses and pick up a Spend in Singleton gift card. Covering everything from retail to experiences, dining to cellar doors, it can be redeemed at more than 100 local businesses, making it the perfect gift for a teacher, colleague, Secret Santa or hard-to-buy-for loved one.

From all of us here at ONE Agency Lindy Harris, we wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
