We’re proud to support a variety of charities and their fundraising efforts in our local community.
The Singleton Cancer Appeal is especially dear to our hearts as we can see the positive impact it’s had on our local community in the Hunter Valley.
Helping our local hospital
The Singleton Cancer Appeal (SCA) was established 38 years ago to assist cancer patients and their families in the Singleton community. SCA’s President, Kay Sullivan, has been involved for 33 of those years. This hard-working, committed community group strives to meet the needs of Singleton Hospital, particularly within palliative care. All money is raised locally and kept local, with no administration fees or wages paid from donations.
Over the years, SCA has done extensive fundraising work within the local community to support many vital initiatives at the hospital, from the purchase of the latest surgical equipment to revamping four palliative care rooms to create a comforting and peaceful home environment for patients and their families.
Allowing patients to stay local
Donations to SCA help fund essential facilities and services and support families in the 2330 postcode that have members suffering from cancer and related illnesses. This has included paying for accommodation for families to stay at Ronald McDonald House when needed.
Through funding equipment and resources, donations to the appeal let Surgeons at the hospital combine their high level of expertise with modern equipment in a rural setting, enabling the hospital to offer a higher standard of service. This, in turn, has allowed more procedures to be done at the hospital, reducing the need for local cancer patients to travel far for their treatment when they are unwell or may lack the funds or transport to travel for care.
A new project
The Singleton Cancer Appeal’s latest project is the establishment of a beautiful and meaningful Memorial Sensory Garden in the hospital grounds. People who wish to donate to the creation of the garden and support the hospital can purchase inscribed pavers to be laid in memory of a loved one. These need not be only for cancer patients, as the garden is intended as a special place for the whole community. Work is well underway on the memorial garden, including the construction of a gorgeous pergola. The builders are currently working on the installation of water tanks, plants and pavers.
At One Agency Lindy Harris, we are passionate about our support of the Singleton Cancer Appeal through an ongoing relationship supporting its many amazing endeavours and future plans.
